The project has received an award of distinction at the nationwide PLGBC Green Building Awards 2023 in the category 3: Best Student Eco-Friendly Project.
Statistics indicate that the building sector is responsible for 37 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. In the era of hyper-consumerism, the concept of ecological awareness in design becomes particularly significant.
In the project of The Natural Building Center, special attention has been given to the principle of a responsible approach to transforming spaces, in accordance with the idea of sustainable construction. The educational space has been designed to utilize eco-friendly materials and technologies that minimize negative impact on the environment. The facility belongs to the Podlaskie Konopie organization, specialized in processing hemp waste, which has great potential for use in the building industry. Hemp is a plant with negative carbon dioxide emissions, and its cultivation generates more oxygen than an equivalent-sized mature forest. This fact served as a major inspiration in designing the space of The Natural Building Center, and hemp has been utilized in various forms throughout the project.
The new adaptation of the historic granary is a space adapted for use by individuals with disabilities, in line with the principle of equal treatment and the concept of barrier-free design.
